Things that I Long For

I long for acknowledgment

of the entire me,

not the parts

that you or you

deem worthy

I long to be celebrated

to be enjoyed

for the authentic being

I am

And was created to be

I long for paid work

that I can be proud

to say I did

I long for peace of mind,

No worries,

No concerns

of finances,

of housing

I long for COURAGE,

COURAGE  to live a life

Where no dreams are deferred

A full-time Certified Accountant

An independent Researcher

A freelance entertainer

creating images that represent

and affirm the Black lesbians

A freelance writer

sharing my poems and cultural critique

A part-time profitable business woman

An out lesbian

Living a life of complete authenticity

An adopted family that loves me

unconditionally and

celebrates and affirms the real me
