No matter how you feel about war, I believe that there is no denying the sacrifice that soldiers all around the world make on behalf of their friends, family, and countrymen. My Grandfather served in two wars, and I will always remember the look of honor and pride in his eyes as he would share his stories with us. Sadly, all to often that sacrifice is not honored when soldiers return to the land which they serve for. Again and again we see the media documentations of PST and the struggles of those that have been permanently wounded in service. I believe that when the opportunities arise, that we should do what we can as regular citizens to show respect and gratitude to our Vets. Locally, a group known as "The Rock Club", headed up by Frank Mcllquham, is preparing to present an excellent and FUN chance for all of us to show a little support back to Vets in the area.

This Memorial Day, May 31, 2010, Mr. Mcllquham's organization will host the ‘ROCK FOR VETS’ Benefit Concert for the VA Healthcare Voluntary Services in Long Beach. The fundraising concert, will feature such artist as El Chicano, Danny Seraphine (CTA, Chicago), David Elliott (of Dionne Warwick), Mumtaz Morris (of Stevie Wonder), Manny Lagod (of Don Ho), Ed Roth, Ronnie Ciago, Mike Pachelli, Bob Luna, Blue Steel, Assisted Living, Jeff Leland, Blind Ruby, Jason Diaz plus many more special guests.

According to The Rock Clubs press release for the event:

Funds raised will be provided to the VA Health Care System, Volunteer Services, Long Beach to:

1. Create a music rehabilitation wing in the VA Long Beach with musical instruments and coaches. <---(SWEEET)
2. Assist the needs of returning soldiers on our own doorstep. <----(NEEDED!)
3. Create an Education and Awareness Campaign in the community regarding the VA Health Care System in Long Beach and its surrounds.

Now YOU can easily show your support by attending the show and purchase tickets for you, the family and your business at www.therockclub.net/rfv. There are group discounts available for purchasing 10 or more tickets. If you cannot be there in person, please support now by purchasing “Tickets for Vets” at www.therockclub.net/rfv, scroll down to the bottom of page, select the number of tickets you would like to purchase and click the “BUY NOW” link, this will allow Veterans to attend the show on your behalf.

Venue: CSULB Walter Pyramid on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, 2010. Doors open at 4 p.m., the show runs till 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale from $35.00 general seating to $60.00 front rows.

I like the idea of this event. You're right, the sacrifice isn't always returned with honor from citizens. We sometimes overlook their effort and guts for serving in the military much less WAR.

Awesome post. This is going to be a great event. Imagine being responsible for thanking a vet by buying a ticket for them? I get goosebumps just thinking about it. I am going, my husband is going, my friends are going....will you? Gonna be some great music!!!
