St. Patrick's Day Haps at the Irish Pubs around town...

For more local bar and restaurant reviews, go to LBFoodReview.com!

It wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s Day without a trek to at least one Irish bar for a Guinness (yum), a green beer (green going in, green going out), some corned beef and cabbage (or perhaps a Banger or three), or just a glimpse of some good old fashioned Irish revelry (and maybe a good hooligan fight). LB Food Review has the scoop on a few Irish pubs covering just about every neighborhood in town, so check ‘em out, in alphabetical order.

The Auld Dubliner – The Dub starts slinging corned beef and cabbage at 10:30am, and from 1:30-5:30 the first live band will be doing its thing. The next band comes on at 9:00pm and brings it home with last call a shade before 2:00am. There will be a $10 cover charge at the door beginning around 1pm, so get there early or save some cash to hand to the big man barring the entrance.
71 S Pine Ave
(562) 437-8300
10:30am-2:00am

Clancy’s Irish Pub – Yes, just about every place will have Guinness and green bubbly beer. But Clancy’s is upping the ante, starting the day off at 8:00am with 3 shots of Jameson for $15, and all beers will be served in 20oz. Imperial Pint glasses for St. Patrick’s Day. Food on the horizon includes Reuben sandwiches, corned beef and cabbage, and other Irish fare, most for just $4.95.
803 E Broadway
(562) 437-1836
8:00am-2:00am

EJ Malloy’s (Atlantic) – At the bigger of the two EJ’s, the manager answered the phone today and, when asked what was happening for St. Patty’s, said, “We’ll start partying at 11 o’clock.” I guess that’s all we need to know.
4306 Atlantic Ave
(562) 424-5000
11am-Midnight

EJ Malloy’s (Broadway) – The full menu will be available, but the emphasis for the day will be the Corned Beef and Cabbage, Corned Beef sandwiches, and green beer. If you’re a sissy and don’t like hanging out with people, To-Go orders will be available so that you can avoid the crowds.
3411 E Broadway
(562) 433-3769
11am-Midnight

Gallagher’s Pub and Grill – Breakfast begins at 10:00am, and liquid breakfast is an integral part of that on March 17th. Gallagher’s, normally a mimosa maison, will be doling out special Irish shots for $6, Green Bud Light for $5, Guinness for $7, and a selection of traditional Irish food. Get there before 1:00pm to avoid waiting in line.
2751 E Broadway
(562) 856-8000
10:00am-1:30am

K.C. Branaghan’s – Co-opting their usual Saturday-Sunday schedule, K.C. Branaghan’s is breaking out the Bottomless Mimosas from opening at 8am until high noon. After your traditional Irish breakfast and a few barrels of champagne, try some more Irish food such as the Banger Dog, the Spicy Tatties, or the obligatory Corned Beef.
5734 East 2nd Street
(562) 434-3600
8:00am-2:00am

Murphy’s Pub – Opening at 10:30am, Murphy’s will be offering green beer, various Irish snacks to munch on, and the usual plethora of bottled beers that take you around the world. Of course, you’ll probably get stuck on the Irish ones. Be sure to get there by about 3:30 to beat the line.
4918 E 2nd St.
(562) 433-6338
10:30am-Midnight

O’Connell’s Cocktails – Sidle up to the pool table, but don’t forget to get your fix of Corned Beef and Cabbage first. O’Connell’s is opening at 6:00am to make sure you get an early start on St. Patty’s Day, so bring your A-game.
2746 E 4th St.
(562) 433-5068
6:00am-2:00am

Quinn’s Irish Pub – This is one place you’ll want to get to early, as it closes before the rest. Quinn’s, normally exclusively a beer and wine joint, will be serving Jello shots, special mixed shots, and green beer from 10:00am on, as well as corned beef tacos and sandwiches. And for those that like a smoke, the cigar shop next door should take care of just about any of your needs.
200 Nieto Ave Ste A
(562) 434-2606
10:00am-10:00pm

Undoubtedly you have your own favorite Irish place around town, and probably your own St. Patrick’s Day traditions as well. Please share them in the comments below! And remember, let’s keep St. Patty’s Day in Long Beach fun and safe. If you can’t find a bicycle or some friends to walk with, please don’t drink and drive, and call a cab if you end up stuck across town.
