So I'm sitting here at It's a Grind in Bixby Knolls, no more than 15 minutes and I already come across a couple of cool things. The first thing is as soon as I walk in, there's a dude sitting here wearing a 562CityLife/
Red Eye Media T-shirt! The first thing I think is, "Hell yeah!" Not so long after I get an e-mail from
Matt "The Truth" Saunders informed me that he received an e-mail from Logan Crow of Mondo Celluloid, that he, Crow, is bringing the beloved cult and horror movies back to
The Long Beach Art Theatre.
Don't know who Mondo Celluloid is? Remember watching Black Dynamite at "The Art?" Remember the fun and culture of Long Beach that you felt? Well that was because of Crow and Mondo Celluloid. Holla.
For those that don't know it's been about 30 minutes since I ended the paragraph above, had a conversation with the guy wearing the 562CityLife T-shirt, he knows how to talk. Anyways, here is the e-mail from Crow informing everyone about the come back.
"Great news for Long Beach's cult classic and horror movie lovers - MondoCelluloid.com's "MONDO MIDNIGHTS" series will return to the Art Theatre in September! They'll be kicking off their programming with a screening of Danny Boyle's 2002 horror hit "28 Days Later" on Friday, September 10th.
"We had a great conversation with the theatre and are happy to report we will once again be programming the Friday midnight series," says MondoCelluloid.com founder Logan Crow. "We're doing '28 Days Later' to whet people's appetite's for October's Zombie Walk and 'Shaun of the Dead' screenings, and might throw in another zombie film into our October lineup as well. As was our tradition, our aim will be to screen these films on 35mm prints, and occasionally theme up the events as well like we did for our 'Killer Klowns from Outer Space' and 'Clockwork Orange' screenings. We'll have giveaways for '28 Days Later,' with some Zombie Movie Trivia before the show as well!"
What's in the works for future screenings? 'We're looking to bring another MuVChat event to The Art in late October. 'Black Dynamite' will probably be making a return. And we're working on something pretty fantastic for Halloween weekend to bookend the Zombie Walk. Keep the suggestions coming!!'"
