Yesterday I was invited to an event by a good friend of mine, David Leonard at Martin Luther King Park. He's been telling me to hit this event up every Wednesday, but I've been flaking out on him but I had good reasons(excuses)! I think... Anyways, I was glad I went to the event, because it reminded me that everywhere in Long Beach, people are trying to share and bring the diversity of this city together. There were different ages, races, and people from all kinds of backgrounds that attended the event.
I was reminded how dedicated people are to serve a good cause, whether it's from city-run-programs like Weed and Seed to Faith-based organizations or local youth volunteering their time because of the value they see in being engaged with their community.
This time the event was a "dance off" theme. Kids and adults showed their moves to win the grand prize of $50. I even ran into some old friends which was really cool. It reminded me that even though the usual suspects get most of the shine in certain areas in the LB, there's still a lot of natural talent going on in one of the most diverse parts of Long Beach, also known as District 6. Enjoy the video, and please leave some feed back!
