Our Marathon Weekend coverage begins! Long Beach Voices tries to keep up with the SOLE RUNNERS as they train for the 2011 International City Bank Marathon. After getting our workout in, we head over to the Marathon Health & Fitness Expo to see all the great vendor participants & to get ready for the Big Day. Finally, we make it over to the Aquarium of the Pacific just in time for the 2nd Annual Kids Fun Run!
The Sole Runners is a fitness group specifically designed to take anyone, of any age, from the couch to a Half &/or Full Marathon within the course of their program. Steve Mackel, Head Coach & founder of Sole Runners, as well as a life-time athlete, has made his group stand out by incorporating ChiRunning(c) & MarathonTraining.TV. To find out more about this great running group, hear success stories & how you can sign up to train with them, please visit his their website:http://www.solerunners.net
Next, we take a stroll through the Long Beach Marathon Health & Fitness EXPO. The expo is certainly an experience & motivation all in and of itself. For regular runners or the first timer, the feeling generating by being in a room full of health & fitness advocates is staggering. Long Beach Voices had a chance to interview some of the vendor participants to learn more about their products and the reasons behind their participation in the Marathon weekend. This segment is certainly one you must visit before the big day!
Marathon Weekend has integrated a very special event which is now on its 2nd year and that is the KIDS FUN RUN, sponsored by the Aquarium of the Pacific. This year, the Kids Fun Run has "SOLD OUT" if you will, with all 200 spots filled up. The entry is actually FREE for children from 6 - 12 Years of age. The Run is a turn around, 1 mile in length, beginning from the Aquarium of the Pacific heading toward the lighthouse & back. The Kids Fun Run was designed to combat childhood obesity, instill a healthy lifestyle & show the children how running can be fun. This year, the kids attended a mini expo of their own, were able to participate in art creation for the marathon & received free passes to the Aquarium.
This is only a taste of what the 2011 International City Bank Marathon incorporates into the Marathon Weekend & we were honored to be able to capture & experience all we were able to. What a great transition into the main day on Sunday, the BIG RACE!
