Long Beach Unemployment numbers: March 2010

Just saw this on the Press Telegram site:
DATABASE: California unemployment figures

City or Area = Long Beach city
Labor Force = 237,500
No. Employed= 205,400
No. Unemployed = 32,000
Unemployment rate = 13.50%

The federal and state government conduct monthly unemployment surveys in cities across America, including dozens of local communities and unincorporated areas. The latest figures (March 2010) reflect the wide disparity of employment for people living in local communities.

Students, the elderly and disabled are typically not included in the surveys.

32,000 people not employed, not counting students, seniors & homeless... that is a lot of people!

I have to agree, been hearing for years about the movie production studio. It would be cool to have that in the LBC. But yeah, I don't see it happening.

The Tesla plant would be cool too but like you said Matt, looks like Downey is getting that one.

Not sure but I checked my hometown and they have 24-25% Unemployment rate, there is no work!

Damn this is interesting. Building condos, when we should be building jobs. And yea, I think the Tesla plant is going to Downey.

We need something like the Tesla Plant to bring some jobs back to LB. I wonder where we rank in the state? Top 10?

So, at the old Boeing plant, off Lakewood Blvd, we've pretty much been being told for a couple of years now that we'll either get a big fancy movie production studio, yeah right..., or a Tesla Motors production plant. Pretty much it's been between Downey and LB forever. Pretty much it looks like it's going to be Downey... They's just done a REALLY good job courting them. It would mean about a 1,000 jobs plus other economic boosts... instead we just keep building condo after condo and they sit vacant...

haha Please do, now I'm very curious!

Oh don't get me started about the Tesla thing! I'll link you to some stuff...

Is not always good to be number one Long Beach!

@JulsnMatt1028 I was not aware of the Tesla plant issue, what is going on with that?
That will mean more jobs obviously, right?

I see so many FOR RENT signs around town in apt buildings, I don't know how can they even sell condos...

LB has had one of the highest unemployment rates in the state for a couple of years now! It makes you have to wonder, why are so excited to build new condo's that no one is buying, but don't really seem to care if a Tesla plant comes here or not...
