Video starring: Mindy Nettifee. Did that bliss you out???
I went to the titanic Long Beach I love you Spoken Word Fest, on March 11th at the Aquarium of the Pacific. It was curated by the infinitely talented writer and performance poet Mindy Nettifee. The word wizards of the evening were promoting "The Good Things About America", which was edited by Derrick Brown and Kevin Staniec.
Mindy performed an ode to the Aquarium of the Pacific and several other poems backed by the dreamy Gliss guitarist David Reiss. Mindy is the board president of the Write Now Poetry Society. She currently has a new book called Sleepyhead Assassins. The next big show she's working on is The Drums Inside Your Chest in August of this year; stay tuned.
Enhancing the performances, the photos of Matt Wignall were projected behind the stage. Matt is a man of many talents. Using a Voightlander and a Lomo he captured slices of life from Derrick Brown and Amber Tamblyn's cross country poetry tour. Matt also produces music for The band The Cold War Kids and co-owns the stylish clothina poem about Long Beachg company Matte Black Clothing with his brother Paul Wignall.
The infamous Derrick Brown mceed and performed excerpts from The Good Things About America . The hardest working poet in America is currently "trying to find a band to open for late this year, running Write Bloody and touring my butt off to stay alive." He's promoting his new book Scandalabra and his CD Black Urchin. "The vocals, were recorded at sea on the Sea Section, the boat I live on." The film Derrick's in THE DRUMS INSIDE YOUR CHEST will be featured at The Newport Beach Film Festival on Sunday, April 26, 2009. His Band The Navy Gravy will be at All Tomorrow's Parties in September.
