Twice now within the last week The
Long Beach Chamber of Commerce has sent out an email, presumably to all of it's members, blasting local efforts to organize and unionize certain labor groups. How Ironic is it that it's OK for the businesses and business owners to organize and lobby politicians, but it's not OK for workers to organize to work towards better pay and wages?
In these emails Long Beach Area Chamber Of Commerce President and CEO Randy Gordon ends his message by saying"...and that's
Strictly Business. Well our understanding is that businesses are about the people, so why fight the peoples efforts to work towards establishing better living conditions for them? If you want your business to do well, then you'll need your people to do well too. Or is it more about "protecting the bottom line and maximizing business profits"?
In the first email Randy attempts to debunk a recent study on labor within the service industry of Long Beach calling the data outdated and biased. What he fails to do however is produce any of his own data, and why not? In a subsequent follow up email titled "Less Choice, More Intimidation" he paints the "
Employee Free Choice Act" as an attempt by unions to be able to intimidate workers into voting in favor of unionizing in order to "gain more power". Of course why would The Chamber Of Commerce want labor to have more power, divide and conquer has always been an effective strategy for achieving want you want in people. At the same time he works to paint the Employee Free Choice Act as an intimidation effort, he concludes this email by saying; "I can assure you that the Long Beach Chamber will do everything possible to stop this Act from passing...", We're sure they have a very good chance at succeeding in defeating this effort, the National Chamber Of Commerce is an extremely powerful lobbying organization, but at least you will now know what's happening as it happens...
