i am a dead boy.

ive been a greaser for just about 10 years now. why? what do i do? do i bite?

The Look

the vintage look that a greaser carries is from a set time period but is timeless(if that makes any sence). what i mean by that is simple; fashion trends and fads come and go, but the "greaser look" has been around for many years. some people will argue that greasers are from the 50s. others say that the look originated as early as the 30s. but it has to be the oldest music culture (and make no mistake, it is a music culture).

The Music

rock-a-billy and psycho-billy is the rhythm a greasers heart beats to. the first of the two sounds like something that your grandpa might have listened to (johnny cash-esk). it has a steady rhythm usually with 3 instruments, very simple; a guitar, a drum set, and a bass...but instead of a bass guitar, you have an upright bass (looks like your third grade violins daddy on steroids). now psycho-billy is the same instrument setup but a heck of a lot faster. more yelling, talks about death, zombies, sex(things that make the world go round). this type of music is usually only available for download on whatever limewire substitute you currently have, or (my personal favorite) you might have to go out to whatever back yard, bar, small venue, or event your favorite bands are playing. there are widely known bands with huge international fan base, but the majority of the music on my ipod is local bands that ive watched, bumped in to, and had conversations with. long beach has such a great music scene for greasers, and its all underground.

Why Am I A Dead Boy?

i am a dead boy because i roll with a bunch of guys known across southern california as the dead boyz. we all live fairly close to each other and roam the streets of north long beach. we arent like the crew of vandals you might see spray painting letters everywhere. we keep our neighborhoods free of those guys and look out for eachother. and its who we usually hang out with after school and/or work.

there are other groups of greasers scattered all around. some worthy of mention are the black kats, the royal cats, and the montegues. those are just a few that reside in long beach. now...we all may be greasers, but we dont all get along. the reasons as to why may vary from one crew to another. that is to be tackled in a different blog.

if there are any questions, comments, ideas, or disturbances, fell free to let me know.

hell yeah, you can jumparound and knock people in the pit around while you have your arm around your buddy and hes holding things down on his side. but ive seen one guy get taken down and he brings the other with him...looked pretty funny. if you do this, i advise you go in there with someone whos experienced in pitting(if there is such a thing)
Comment by Hugo Mora on February 24, 2011 at 7:03pm
it is  possbile to run around the pit with more than one person? kinda like a tag team!
Comment by Jesus Hernandez on February 24, 2011 at 6:13pm
Haha yeah, its mainly to keep u on your toes and toughen you up. Cus after you're done wrecking with a complete stranger, you can have a beer with him or something too.

The name of the crew I'm in is the Dead Boyz. I live in north long beach as well, right by atlantic and south. But we're usually seen anywhere from artesia to del amo and long beach blvd to cherry
Comment by The Man on February 24, 2011 at 5:19pm

Oh snaps! I've heard of wrecking, but I didn't know THAT'S what it was! Damn, yea I'm not sure about pits and stuff, I don't got it in me.

Roam the streets of north long beach? Where at? I live in North Long Beach... So what's the name of the group your in?

there are pits in psychobilly shows. all you do is push eachother back and forth. keep in mind that you NEVER hit no one above the shoulders or else you could find yourself on the business end of a knife. oh and theres this other thing called wrecking. its when u and some other guy get infront of eachother and start punching eachother in the stomach(not sure what this proves)
Comment by Hugo Mora on February 23, 2011 at 2:06am
that would be great! is there any pits and if so is there any etiquette?

I seem to forgotten. I think we should go to another show!
