Pookey Wigington posted an event The garage band is alive and well in the 562. I went to a DiPiazzas show a couple of months ago and caught this band doing their thing on stage.
Ampersound came together as a band just recently in mid October of 2010. In the photo, from left to right, is Michael Morales plays guitar and does vocals, but also plays bass. Joey Leon is the bass guitarist but switches it up as well and plays guitar and sings. Jesse Leon plays the guitar and swithces off with Michael from lead guitar to rhythm. Kyle Edwards is the drummer and can get down on back up vocals as well.
Joey and Jesse are brothers, Michael and Kyle went to high school together, and Joey and Michael met as coworkers. One day Joey and Michael were having a jam session and Joey thought it would be cool if he brought his little brother Jesse along next time. Michael told them he has a buddy that plays the drums...and that is how Ampersound was born.
I sat through their late practice session in Kyles garage, and the music brought me back to memories of about 8 years ago when life was simpler and i had a new crush every week. When they start playing, its hard to believe they've only been together as a band for the better part of 5 months.
The Alternative Punk band has played 8 shows so far including a couple back yard shows and their favorite, after agreeing that it was definately not "Chain Reaction," had to be when they played Tracys. Among the bands good natured arguing and shit talking, they began talking about their first band meeting. "We wrote our Party Song during our first practice," said Michael. They started off playing covers bands like Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World, and Aerosmith. Now most of their song list for shows consists of songs they have written themselves, so much so that when i reminded them of this they becan debating what cover they should play and their upcoming show.
Their fan base consists of mainly family and friends, though they've began branching out. They're also currently working in the studio, putting together a mix so they can send it out to different record labels and hope they get picked up.
They have tracks available for listening on soundcloud and youtube.
Ampersound has a free show coming up on Monday, March 28th at DiPiazzas. There is no better way of getting the feel of the band than to catch them live. Have you ever heard of the band? Have you ever had dreams of starting up your own music project? Would you consider catching them at their free DiPiazzas show?
