On Saturday, July 11th, Tijuana Knife Fight played their last show. Putting on an amazing set, the guys performed at Alex's Bar in Long Beach, the same venue that first put them on stage.
Tijuana Knife Fight (TKF) formed in 2004, and during their tenure, saw their fair share of musicians come and go. Chris Muench and Dan Cady were the only ones who held on for the entire journey.
Alex Hernandez, owner of Alex's Bar, was among the founding members. When asked about the early days of TKF, Cady responded, "We initially figured that we would just be a rowdy, crap local band that would just play Alex's because, well it was Alex's bar and it was Alex's band."
At one point, Scott Raynor, the original drummer for Blink-182 joined the band. According to Cady, Raynor's drumming was amazing, making the band's sound the "tightest" it had ever been. Unfortunately, Raynor's sobriety lead him to leave the band before heading down to Mexico for a long weekend.
The guys barely made it back alive, and actually scared off Raynor's replacement, Mike Garcia (of Fast Dragon and The Days End.)
TFK's final lineup consisted of Dan Cady (Vocals), Chris Muench (Guitar), Chris Friedman(Guitar), Vince Giobbe (Bass), and Justin Hische (Drums).
After nearly 5 years of mayhem, countless shows, and two EPs, it was time to call it quits.
Their last show was as good as it gets: great music, sentimental banter, and some Jameson shots thrown in for good measure. Former band members Alex Hernandez, Aaron Broderick, Jesse Rowe, and Mike Garcia joined the guys for one last song.
While the curtain has dropped for all eternity on Tijuana Knife Fight, you can still check out their sound: their tunes are available for listen (and purchase) on myspace.com/tijuanaknifefight
