While this week much of the media hype will be about the ultra exclusive
TED Conference. We'd like to turn your attention to an equally dynamic and deep thinking conference, that YOU can actually participate in! The
BIL Conference is an open forum "Un-Conference", that has no rules, no pre-approved speakers, just the open invitation for anyone to get up a talk. Talkers can speak on any subject they'd like, and the range can be VERY diverse, and VERY thought provoking.
This years BIL Conference will take place at
MOLAA on Friday Feburary 12th and Saturday Feb 13th where great thinkers will converge to discuss all manner of new ideas and developing studies, from their collective and extensive area of expertise.
"This will be an amazing year for BIL" declared Megan Klimen, one of several core organizers of the event. "This year promises to be better than the last, with exciting speakers such as Steven Jurvetson talking about rockets and Matt Bell pontificating on self sleep experimentation. We're setting the stage for another year of idea sharing and development, and we're predicting a huge turnout."
BIL is an ad-hoc conference that offers an organic, DIY format. Speakers post their talks, and throughout the weekend-long event, participants can propose their own discussion groups. Many of these are in response to ideas introduced in the scheduled talks; many come from discussions that happen in the hallways of the venue, or that night at the bar, or in line for morning coffee.
"That's the nature of this event," says Denise Hill, BIL enthusiast and underwear model. "It's a self-organizing creature, and it's reflective of the quality of people who attend."
Kari from the Primespot.com invited me to my first BIL Conference last year, and I would HIGHLY recommend this free speaking free thinking weekend to all of our 562CityLifers who over the last year have proven themselves to be thoughtful, compassionate, individual thinkers, that will surely rival any of the outstanding talkers at TED!
