I was checking the headlines today, and I came across a story about a man being killed in Belmont Shore by a police officer after an altercation with the man who allegedly had a gun. Authorities have not released the name of the man who died at the scene.
Here what the Press Telegram reported on the incident:
"Police shot and killed a man Sunday night in an altercation near apartments in Belmont Shore, authorities said.
Police were called at 4:40 p.m. to investigate a man with a gun in the 5300 block of Ocean Boulevard near Glendora Avenue, said Long Beach Sgt. Dina Zapalski.
Zapalski said police witnessed a man holding a gun and an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect, whose identity was not released, died at the scene. Authorities on Sunday night did not release further details on the shooting pending the ongoing investigation. No officers were injured.
Standing near the crime scene, witness Val Scott said her daughter's husband was the one who called police.
"My daughter and I were out shopping and her husband was at home watching TV when the dog suddenly got spooked by something outside," Scott said.
The husband opened his sliding glass door and saw a man sitting on a porch of a nearby rear apartment."
Were you near the scene of the shooting? Do you have any inside information? It sucks to see this happening, and I don't think I can have an informed opinion...yet without knowing the complete details. What do you think about this whole situation? Let it be known in the comment section below. Also, you can read the article in here by click here: Man dies in BelmontShore officer-involved shooting.

PerfectIntent - In addition to reading the news I speak to a LB cop often and got more details than have been made public. I am not the media so I will not share what the cops have not shared yet. Maybe everyone will understand better when the investigation is complete and more details are made public.
Comment by PerfectIntent on December 18, 2010 at 7:02pm It looks like a group has started up. Maybe this will start the change. Here's the link:

Comment by jacqueline martinson on December 18, 2010 at 5:47pm another classic case to me of police brutality at it's worst!!! I will tell you something, I for one am so sick of the injustices caused in this country by our police force.. Definately taking power and control to the most negative highest level...!!! Just plain makes me sick to my stomach...R*I*P to Mr. Zerby..:(
Comment by THEE DOPE SHOW on December 18, 2010 at 8:26am there is alot they cover up... time for budget cuts...
Comment by PerfectIntent on December 17, 2010 at 11:35pm Yes, they are regular people, but when they f$%k up, they cover it up. Can you believe the arrogant things the Chief said right in front of the parents and siblings? It's as if he had no soul. The first thing they need to do in this case is come clean and admit that they royally screwed up. We the people are going to pay for it either way but arrogant comments that are not based on fact like "Mr Zerby is dead because of his own actions". This means just about everyone of us could have been killed in the same manner under this protocol.
Comment by THEE DOPE SHOW on December 17, 2010 at 10:44pm cops are regular people also... i remember when the homie who was doing security at one of the bars on pine avenue sold a eight ball of coke to one of the police. it was so his wife could party. before you say something stupid... i seen it with my own 2 eyes.
Comment by Shelley_Rae on December 15, 2010 at 9:29pm I have spoke to Eden, Doug Zerby's sister. Facts are he did NOT raise his arms like he was going to shoot something. Cops seemed to act over zealously, and I have gut instinct they screwed up big time.
Comment by JulsnMatt1028 on December 15, 2010 at 11:54am That's why I saw, I'll be teaching MY kids to be VERY careful when it comes to cops, to me honestly they're pretty much just another gang. They just happen to have the lawmakers and judge's on their side. Yes, I know cops put themselves on the line and they have to be careful, but they also need to learn how to move slowly into a situation. When you add some hot head to the mix of what's already a problem situation then what happens? IT ONLY MAKES THE SITUATION WORSE! I believe the saying is something about "Cooler heads"... So, if based upon classical conditioning, we've learned that you can't always trust the "responsible authorities" to act with the cooler head, then WE have to be on alert and make sure that WE act with cooler heads, other wise yes, they have the right do do whatever they feel like doing. With zero repercussions. What did the murderer of Oscar Grant get, Three years??? Really, are you serious?!
I might be airing a bit too much info here, but my own brother is a cop, in Oakland too, and yes I can testify that he is very arrogant, and does not choose to hear or listen or walk slowly, instead he attempts to charge in and "take control", well to me, that's a recipe for disaster...
I understand, that maybe they couldn't see, and we shouldn't rush, and he must have pointed the HOSE NOZZLE, but let's not be TOO quick defend the badge holders either. They need to be held accountable for there actions in this case and in general. They need to learn how to ratchet a situation DOWN NOT UP. That's the truth right there. Restraint is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Comment by MBT (MajicBulletTheory) on December 15, 2010 at 11:19am Wow, I had a half-pissed off comment, but all of my points have been covered (Mainly about how people are outraged because a White dude got killed by a COP in Belmont Shore--Oscar Grant in Oakland was handcuffed and on his STOMACH, when that asshat of a transit cop shot him in the BACK, and I didn't see/hear the outrage around here. Hell, remember the crazy Black lady with a KNIFE about 3 years ago?? The big bad LBPD cops with Silly Clubs SHOT HER). They need BETTER training, and more accountability. And, some Humility--I've never met a cop who wasn't an arrogant, condescending F***tard! I don't care if you have Cop Friends--they're YOUR friends, not mine, and they treat me like a criminal or a second class citizen! Cop Cams on their chests with Audio would be nice!!! I'm inclined NOT to trust the LBPD--I often wonder if I'm next--and, I'm hardly a 'criminal' type, but I'm a Black Male, I must've done 'something'....
The Cops scare the shit out of me, for reasons like this. They'll be back to work in two weeks, whoever smoked this dude...
Maybe, for OUR protection, the cops should wear a 'I just killed somebody, move slowly' badge, or something. Like a Orange alert....
Comment by JulsnMatt1028 on December 15, 2010 at 10:55am Falsifying crime stats is sadly not limited to LBPD either. I recently heard a report on NPR about the Suffolk County PD recently attempting to report ZERO hate crimes within a year! Come on now, really, ZERO. They were not the only ones either DETROIT and NEW ORLEANS also tried the same BS!
One truth I know to be is that there are two ways to lie, with your words, and with numbers!
Let's just be honest, so we can have a valid and open conversation about how to improve situations...
