The Art Theatre of Long Beach, in collaboration with the 4th Street Business Association and MondoCelluloid.com, welcomes you to a benefit event to raise much-needed funds for the family of Melody Ross, victim of a senseless and tragic shooting at Wilson High School.
All proceeds collected at this event will benefit the Melody Ross Memorial Trust, established by the Superintendent of Schools, and President of the Long Beach Education Foundation, to handle costs associated with her death. All artists have donated their time and efforts.

Time: November 17, 2009 from 7:30pm to 11:30pm
Location: The Art Theatre of Long Beach

Performing at this event will be:

PraCh - Cambodian-American rapper from Long Beach, California. His first CD, Dalama: The End’n’ Is Just the Beginnin’, features sampled sound bytes from old Khmer Rouge propaganda speeches to deliver a blistering history lesson about Cambodia’s genocide.

Universal Speakers - female trio hailing from Long Beach, who blend Reggae, hip-hop and R&B sounds in their music.

DaddyScotty aka the “Dub PassenJah” - one of the founding members of Chapter 11, a local group known for its unique sound that blends hip-hop beats with Reggae instrumentation, rhythms and melodies.

Mike Sonksen aka Mike the Poet - poet, journalist, historian, tour guide, and teacher. His book, I Am Alive in Los Angeles, has been added to the curriculum of several universities and has received rave reviews.

JUMAKAE Yodraj - poet, activist & songwriter.

Entry donation is a suggested $10, and are available at the Art Theatre box office or online here.

Please help spread the word about this event, and thanks to the many of you who have stepped in to assist in making as great an impact as possible in helping the Ross family through this unimaginably difficult time.

Show your support CityLifers and RSVP here and we look forward to seeing Tuesday night!

HEY! That picture of the gorgeous and multi-talented Jumakae was taken my me! This looks to be an amazing event, and I hope lots of folks pack the house to share some loving support for a family in crisis and, at the same time, experience some great creative expression.

FYI, I wasn't able to find the date or time of the event in this piece.
