Hughes Middle School recently held an assembly introducing kids to Rachel Scott's Challenge. Scott was the first of 13 victims in the Columbine massacre. Known for her kindness, Scott always showed compassion towards three specific groups: disabled, new at school and people who have been picked on or put down.
The Long Beach Unified School District issued 253 pink slips to teachers which is partly because the district needs to cut $90 million from its budget.
