Local Artist’s Work at El Dorado Nature Center at El Dorado Nature Center Museum

July 6, 2013 to July 31, 2013
Long Beach artist Timothy Bulone’s work will hang at the El Dorado Nature Center here beginning Saturday, July 6. Bulone creates each of his images by starting with a digital photograph, then using a variety of computer programs to render them into art that is “more representational, more evocative, and more revelatory” than the original photo, he says. "Digital art sounds much too cold to me. I think of it as photographic art and of myself as an artist working in photography. I am so thankful…See More

Legendary V.I.P. World Famous Records Closes Shop

It's seems like times are definitely changing. Not sure if it's for the good or bad or whatever. But definitely, the closing of the world famous V.I.P. record store is in my opinion, another defeat in Long Beach's small business scene. For those who don't know (which I hope aren't many of you CIty Lifers), V.I.P. is home to many old school hip hop videos that featured Warren G, Snoop, Nate Dogg, and more. Remember this video?     To be…See More

Food Trucks vs City Regulations

It is no secret that the food truck scene has hit Southern California hard. Long Beach is no exception, but with some of the regulations in the city, the food truck scene is being pushed away.

"I love food trucks, I have to go out to Hollywood or near LAX to get my fix!" shares Mayra H. "Why…

North Long Beach's Inaugural Community Assembly

Skating in The 562

It is no secret that the Long Beach youth love to skate. There are a few skate parks here and there, but on Satuday, July 23rd, Freedom to Ride; Skate Jam BBQ brought out some of the city's skate life to Bixby Park (which is nowhere near Bixby Knolls).

With a live DJ, Long Beach Skate, free hotdogs, and the summer sun in the LBC, how could this not be a fun event?

Red-light Cameras Shut Down in Long Beach - Not As Effective As We Thought

What's up City Lifers? I was checking some of the headlines today and I came across an article regarding the shutting down of red-light cameras in Long Beach. Currently, there are five locations which include these intersections:

Seventh Street and Redondo Avenue; Bellflower Boulevard and Willow Street; Cherry Avenue and Artesia Boulevard; Wardlow Road and Long Beach Boulevard; and Anaheim Street and Long Beach…

LB Street Food Fest was Fantastic

Of all the melting pot cities in the country, I believe Long Beach is the most appropriate one to host a food truck fair. After all, Long Beach is widely known for its cultural diversity and food trucks are known to create fusion flair grub.

I’m talking Korean fried chicken, chimales,…

Long Beach Photo Project

Participating in the Long Beach Artwalk every month, I get many requests for more photos of this great city but I don't have a large library. I always say that I will be taking them but never really get to it and I'm getting tired of just saying it but never really doing it.

Today I am introducing my Long Beach Photo Project that will hopefully include many great shots in the city we all love. In order to make sure I stick to it and finish it, I am giving myself a deadline.…

Lucha libre means "free wrestling" in spanish, and from watching a fight or two, you can see that this wrestling style is about as free as you can get. Don't get it…
