Very few economists and financial experts believed a financial disaster like the one we are currently experiencing could actually happen. Over the spring and summer of 2008, oil prices rose to levels never seen before in the United States—which equated to a half billion dollar tax on American consumer’s spendable income. This was followed by the collapse of the mortgage markets, brought on by an aggressive price bubble with too many people buying homes they couldn’t afford in the hopes of being…

Twas the night before Christmas
When all through Long Beach City
Many were stirring with smiles and looking so pretty
The lights were all hung throughout the city with care
In hopes that St. Nick soon would be there.
The drunks were living it up on 2nd
The Pike was filled with lights galore
Pine… Continue

I have made a list for those of you contemplating on going out this New Year's Eve, but are on a budget. If you don't want to spend $75 bucks just to get in the door somewhere, there's hope for you. I've listed events from free to $$$. Lucky for us, here in Long Beach, you don't have to break the bank for a night out on NYE. If you go out please take some pictures, I'd love to see them on the site! Here's the 562 NYE 411:

see the report here, are you affected by this at all, do you have someone in your life that is?

We know that it's hard to resist Wal-Mart prices, but shopping locally is good for us all!

If you still need to get some last minute shopping done, I have the perfect place to go. The Long Beach Pop Up Shop Returns for it's final day this Sunday. What is the Long Beach Pop Up Shop? It's a one stop shopping zone located in front of the Art Theater on 4th Street. You can get a hot coffee at the Portfolio Annex Coffee Bar and browse the afternoon away. There is jewelry, clothing and kitsch for sale and it's a great way to help support our local artisans. For photos and more info, check…

There we were. Third in line, sitting in our car, the day before Thanksgiving, waiting to get gas. Then, there it was. A man ahead of us got out of his car, his shirt spoke volumes. This one shirt captured our attention right away. It read
Obama across the chest (angled) and the number 44 below it. We both vocalized the question, "where did he get that at?!" Tempted to go up to him to ask, we both were a little shy. So,…

TheSyncast:
Many of you are already aware of TheSyncast but I figured it made good solid solidified sense to post a blog about it. I'm sure there are a good number of you that have never heard of TheSyncast and that's not a good thing. The first Syncast went live 06/01/2006 with KD as the host. KD hosted the majority of the first 10 Episodes sharing his duty occasionally with Man of War. Motion Plus guest hosted a special mixtape edition which lead to a series of episodes…

I have a hundred reasons why I hate Wal-Mart! I won't make you suffer through one of my rants though, it is almost Christmas after all and I
should be spreading cheer...
I will however say that this picture is one BIG reason... Here I am standing in a line that's not moved for at least five minutes and when the manager finally drags herself up to the return desk, she's YAWNING! Argh, can you put a little pep in your step????
OK, that's it, but... why…

If you missed the grand opening of the CosmoPawlitan Boutique this passed weekend, then you seriously missed out on some fun! But don't fret, this dog boutique has much in store weekly! Yappy Hours, dog parties, furtography, behavioral classes, and special events are just to name a few fun dog festivities!
I was able to meet Eva, the store owner, and ask a few questions. One that came to mind immediately was the name of the store. It's so…

bAs a father of five, I have experienced first-hand the joys and pains of watching my kids grow up and learn to manage their money. For some of them it was hard, but they limited borrowed from the Bank of Dad. They stood on their own and learned how to manage their money. For a couple of them, the Bank of Dad has been the lender of last resort with free interest rates and easy repayment terms. It can be tough to learn how to manage your money, but here are ten rules that will make it easier not…

I met with John Geldbach owner of DDR Projects and had a great chat about art in Long Beach and upcoming plans for the store. DDR Projects, which opened August 3, 2007, was voted best art Gallery by the District Weekly and is one of the last galleries standing in our city. The galleries here are all closing! Why, you may ask? Perhaps it's the sagging economy, lack of community support and sluggish sales. It really saddened me out to see Raymundo's Fine Art Gallery close and more recently…

Our nation’s current financial crisis is the most complicated set of events we could ever dream of. Banks facilitated the growth in mortgages by assuming house values would continue to rise, the economy would stay strong and provide jobs to new homeowners, and the stack of cards wouldn’t fall all at the same time. Wall Street firms took the mortgages, repackaged them as mortgage-backed securities and made convoluted bets (read gambling, not investing here) on exotic mortgage securities. For the…
