2nd Annual SCI Photography Show

Aaaagh! Finals...um sorry. That should be a separate blog post regarding school. However, that's all I had time for.

With that out of my system...I just wanted to update 562Citylifers about another happening annual event in Long Beach. Ok, this year's Photography Show at the VA Hospital was today. However, the SCI department is taking sign-ups NOW for their free photography and Photoshop classes that will begin in January. You must be a Veteran with any branch of… Continue

Long Beach Clothing Company Lands in the BK

Via Press Release:

"Where the hell did you guys go?"

That's what we've heard every day since March when we departed The Pike.

After nearly eight months of searching the City high and low for perfect place to settle down, we met Blair Cohn at the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association. Blair convinced us that Bixby Knolls was the place to be. His enthusiasm for the community is unparalleled. Bixby Knolls clearly offered many benefits, not only to Long… Continue

Underground Musicians & Promoters Give Thanks

A Call to Support Small Business Saturday

Forget about Black Friday! OK, OK I know that might be asking a bit much, but this Saturday 11/27 set aside some of those green backs that you would have otherwise used to line the pockets of the CEO's and Shareholders of Walmart, Target, and the likes and drop a few dimes into the registers of our local small businesses!

Why is this Saturday the perfect chance to do that? Well in case you've missed the massive PR campaign by American Express, yes I get the irony of a huge… Continue

10 reasons you should buy a home now - Long Beach Homes For Sale & surrounding cities...

At the peak of the housing bubble, plenty of people thought a house was the key to riches. Now they're wondering if buying a home even makes sense anymore.

You can get a good deal.

You can get a house at a bargain price now -- especially if you play hardball. This is a buyer's market. Most of the other buyers have vanished since the tax… Continue

Is now the right time to Purchase a Home? Long Beach Homes For Sale.

Homes are a Bargain... But for how long???

There are actually two things you should ask yourself if you are thinking about buying a home.

1. Is it the right time for me to purchase a home?

This should be the easier of the two answers for you. If you have good credit and 20% as a downpayment it is a fantastic time to buy. The prices… Continue

Where My B-Boys At??? Afrika Bambaataa Brought the Best in LBC Out

A Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, universal Hip-Hop phenomenon, father of Electro-Funk sounds and one of the originators of break-beat dancing, DJ Afrika Bambaataa, headlined a show at the Rhythm Lounge Saturday and the most resonating memory for me was the amazing local break dancers who rocked the floor before the show.

Not to take anything away from the performance, which also featured the famous The Egyptian Lover, members of the Universal Zulu Nation and DJs Jon-E,… Continue

The Long Beach Police Department is seeking the public's help in identifying a suspect that is wanted in connection with two sexual assaults that occurred in August 2008 (7th Street & Atlantic Avenue) and December 2009 (Cherry Avenue & Ocean Boulevard). Both victims were in the shower when the suspect entered their residences and confronted them. The suspect then forced the victims into another room where he subsequently sexually assaulted them. In both of these cases, the suspect… Continue

Los Angeles County Bans Plastic Bags

In a successful legislative move by environmental activists, a ban on plastic bags was approved and will be banned from grocery stores, pharmacies, etc. Currently the state spends about $25 million cleaning and disposing of what some people call "urban tumbleweed." In an article in the Press Telegram it explains it in more detail. Below are a few quotes from that article.

"Single-use plastic bags will be banned… Continue

Seed Saving

This is the slower part of the year for gardening and this makes it a great time to harvest seeds. Seeds packets are not horribly expensive but the prices go up every year and saving seeds will help alleviate this issue.

I started saving seeds a few months ago and still doing it. These are not only meant for home-grown vegetables and fruit but may also be done with store bought produce. It must be noted though that store bought produce may be a hybrid and may not grow correctly. This… Continue

Orizaba Park to receive 2.2 Million

One of my favorite things about Long Beach is our parks! There's no doubt in my mind that across the city we've done a good job creating park space. With that though comes future investment needs for maintenance and upgrades. The City sent out a cool press release today announcing that it will receive a $2,200,000 grant from the State of California Natural Resources Agency to fund an approximately 3,000-square-foot community center and community garden at Orizaba Park!

The… Continue
