Local Artist’s Work at El Dorado Nature Center at El Dorado Nature Center Museum

July 6, 2013 to July 31, 2013
Long Beach artist Timothy Bulone’s work will hang at the El Dorado Nature Center here beginning Saturday, July 6. Bulone creates each of his images by starting with a digital photograph, then using a variety of computer programs to render them into art that is “more representational, more evocative, and more revelatory” than the original photo, he says. "Digital art sounds much too cold to me. I think of it as photographic art and of myself as an artist working in photography. I am so thankful…See More

Legendary V.I.P. World Famous Records Closes Shop

It's seems like times are definitely changing. Not sure if it's for the good or bad or whatever. But definitely, the closing of the world famous V.I.P. record store is in my opinion, another defeat in Long Beach's small business scene. For those who don't know (which I hope aren't many of you CIty Lifers), V.I.P. is home to many old school hip hop videos that featured Warren G, Snoop, Nate Dogg, and more. Remember this video?     To be…See More

LBCreative, one of the Catalyst Network of Communities, held its monthly mixer which is every last Monday of each month. This month it was located at Evan Kelly's Exhibit A. The night was filled with great music and a diverse mix of people from artists, to soccer non-profit organizations but the common factor was that everybody is trying to network.

Tribute to Local Musician Petey Parker…

I was a little shocked to hear it this weekend, a little randomly on Facebook as friends of friends started to chatter. Peter Sirimarco aka Petey Parker of the LB Prominent Sons had passed away suddenly on Saturday. I had just seen Petey a few months back, he had been losing weight and seemed to be feeling good and to see him gone at 32 years is tragic. We wish him all the best and decided to compile all the nice… Continue

Plans to transform Long Beach's courthouse from crumbling facility to gleaming state-of-the-art structure progressed Monday with selection of a team to design and operate the new building.

Officials, in a move they hope will transform a downtown neighborhood in the city's West Gateway, selected Long Beach Judicial Partners to design, fund, operate and maintain Long Beach's new downtown courthouse. It is expected to open… Continue

"Rockabilly on Pine" Not So Rockabilly...

Last Saturday LBPP headed to downtown Long Beach for the second installment of the Summer And Music concert series; Rockabilly on Pine. We got there just as Miguel Garcia & the Vaquetones were ending their set. The crowd was pretty sparse with most people still standing up on the sidewalks watching from afar, which I suppose would have looked even worse had they put the stage at one of the ends of the blocked off street instead of right in the middle of the block. Now I'm no Rockabilly… Continue

$8 Million For Feasibility Study

I went down to the beach today to ask a few people, well the people who didn't tell me no once I whipped out my HD Flip camera about what they thought of the local beach and the $8 million dollars to run a test (Long Beach will pay for approximately half of that amount) to decide if removing or reconfiguring the breakwater will bring waves and cleaner water back to our shores. The City Council are having a meeting to vote on this issue today at 5:30 p.m. Do you think the study is… Continue

Wave activity will improve our water quality, stimulate tourism, and boost our local economy by making our beaches a new and exciting destination. We can do all this while protecting our coastal homes and the Port of Long Beach.

We expect that this…
