Local Artist’s Work at El Dorado Nature Center at El Dorado Nature Center Museum

July 6, 2013 to July 31, 2013
Long Beach artist Timothy Bulone’s work will hang at the El Dorado Nature Center here beginning Saturday, July 6. Bulone creates each of his images by starting with a digital photograph, then using a variety of computer programs to render them into art that is “more representational, more evocative, and more revelatory” than the original photo, he says. "Digital art sounds much too cold to me. I think of it as photographic art and of myself as an artist working in photography. I am so thankful…See More

Legendary V.I.P. World Famous Records Closes Shop

It's seems like times are definitely changing. Not sure if it's for the good or bad or whatever. But definitely, the closing of the world famous V.I.P. record store is in my opinion, another defeat in Long Beach's small business scene. For those who don't know (which I hope aren't many of you CIty Lifers), V.I.P. is home to many old school hip hop videos that featured Warren G, Snoop, Nate Dogg, and more. Remember this video?     To be…See More

Zombies are a Smash Hit!

The First Annual (we hope) Long Beach Zombie Walk was an enormous success last night. Somewhere between 100 and 200 zombies inched there way down 4th from Portfolio Cafe to the Art Theater, moaning and dragging limbs and body parts along with them.

The event was organized by Logan Crowe of Mondo Celluloid and The Art Theater, and was A LOT of fun! A full slide show of the event is all the way down and you grab the embed code of that show to drop on you web page, or… Continue

Second Street Parking Restrictions until Thursday

Seems a bit trivial considering the day's real news events but thought we would let anyone who was planning to venture down to Second Street this week that there is major construction going on on both sides of the street. Both sides of Second Street are closed to parking from 10am today through 6pm on Thursday. Additional parking lots behind businesses on Second Street are still open to the public.

On a trip to bank this morning I noticed… Continue

California Supreme Court Upholds Prop 8 - Demonstrations Planned Tonight

The California Supreme Court announced today that they have voted to uphold the Same Sex Marriage Ban voted into law by Proposition 8 in November. The court has decided to allow the 18,000+ existing marriages to stand but has rejected an argument from gay rights activists that the ban revised the California constitution’s equal protection clause to such a dramatic degree that it first needed the Legislature’s approval.

We are happy for the estimated 18,000 gay couples who tied the… Continue
