Long Beach artist Timothy Bulone’s work will hang at the El Dorado Nature Center here beginning Saturday, July 6. Bulone creates each of his images by starting with a digital photograph, then using a variety of computer programs to render them into art that is “more representational, more evocative, and more revelatory” than the original photo, he says. "Digital art sounds much too cold to me. I think of it as photographic art and of myself as an artist working in photography. I am so thankful…See More

It's seems like times are definitely changing. Not sure if it's for the good or bad or whatever. But definitely, the closing of the world famous V.I.P. record store is in my opinion, another defeat in Long Beach's small business scene. For those who don't know (which I hope aren't many of you CIty Lifers), V.I.P. is home to many old school hip hop videos that featured Warren G, Snoop, Nate Dogg, and more. Remember this video? To be…See More

On Saturday, March 28th the City of Long Beach Economic Development and Cultural Affairs Bureau, The Arts Council for Long Beach, and the Los Angeles County Arts Commission held a Creative Community Public Forum at the Museum of Latin American Art, in Long Beach.
Now that's a lot of big fancy organization titles and to me art has never really been about organization and structure. To me art springs up organically, at the times and in the places where one might least expect… Continue
Many courthouse judges in the states are beginning to offer delinquents an alternative to incarceration for misdemeanor crimes. For crimes like petty theft, the offender is liely to be ordered to wear a two-sided board which reads something like, "I Stole a Snickers from a mini-mart". In a case of a lady who purchased weed while her babies were in her car, a judge ordered her to take out an ad in the local paper, stating her crime. Posting a jumbo size board that reads as "I am a Sex Offender"… Continue
Hopefully, my profile informs you just a bit, about why I love LB. Heres some more info as to why:
Like I said, I grew up in Lakewood. I moved out of my parents house when I was 22, My bestfriend and I shared a two-bedroom apartment at 1740 Redondo #15, a few buildings south of The Executive Suite. Man, did we ever hear our share of ruckus late night street brawls, all coming from the drunk patrons leaving that bar. After 2 years, I moved into a classic, vintage one-bedroom down on Rose… Continue

On 4th street you will find many different types of thrift stores ranging from furniture antiques to vintage clothing. There's also an Artsy Theater that has only one viewing room, but shows independent films and some mainstream. I could feel a creative vibe in air as walked up and down the street window shopping.
The picture above was taken at La Bomba Vintage Thrift. Now every 3rd Saturday of the month La Bomba opens the back… Continue

Every year, I get this odd itch to have some work done. I love tattoos. I love to get them, I love to look at them, analyze them. I seriously love ink!
So now I ask you, show me your ink. I wanna see what you have done or tell me what you plan on… Continue
Some people hate it, some people love it, some Governors say they will not accept it, but does Long Beach need it?
This picture is just one example of something I found in Long Beach that could use a little stimulus money thrown at it. What about you? How many things in Long Beach can you think of that could use some stimulus money?
Why would anyone want to say no to this funding source? Isn't it the job of our local,… Continue

Twice now within the last week The Long Beach Chamber of Commerce has sent out an email, presumably to all of it's members, blasting local efforts to organize and unionize certain labor groups. How Ironic is it that it's OK for the businesses and business owners to organize and lobby politicians, but it's not OK for workers to organize to work towards better pay and wages?
In these emails Long Beach Area Chamber Of Commerce President and CEO Randy… Continue
