Local Artist’s Work at El Dorado Nature Center at El Dorado Nature Center Museum

July 6, 2013 to July 31, 2013
Long Beach artist Timothy Bulone’s work will hang at the El Dorado Nature Center here beginning Saturday, July 6. Bulone creates each of his images by starting with a digital photograph, then using a variety of computer programs to render them into art that is “more representational, more evocative, and more revelatory” than the original photo, he says. "Digital art sounds much too cold to me. I think of it as photographic art and of myself as an artist working in photography. I am so thankful…See More

Legendary V.I.P. World Famous Records Closes Shop

It's seems like times are definitely changing. Not sure if it's for the good or bad or whatever. But definitely, the closing of the world famous V.I.P. record store is in my opinion, another defeat in Long Beach's small business scene. For those who don't know (which I hope aren't many of you CIty Lifers), V.I.P. is home to many old school hip hop videos that featured Warren G, Snoop, Nate Dogg, and more. Remember this video?     To be…See More

The Garage Theatre, in its 11th season, is producing its 50th show and what better than to present Hunter Gatherers, described by Nachtrieb as Lord of the Flies meets Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? This seemingly sophisticated, annual dinner party is about to get raw.  Come with us to the place where our primal instincts are flirting with whom you think we are now.  An outrageous evening of hilarious proportions is about to unfold with a dash of deception, and a sprinkling of sexy time.  Toss…See More

CORPUS CHRISTI by Terrence McNally at The Garage Theatre

July 29, 2011 at 8pm to August 27, 2011 at 8pm
One of the most profound aspects of the theatre is its ability to combine multiple realities of the human experience through storytelling in order to widen one's consciousness. Terrence McNally combines the journey of Jesus Christ and his Apostles with the reality of being a gay man in mid-20th century Corpus Christi, Texas. By doing so, McNally creates a groundbreaking experience with this age-old story that  humanizes the Christian gospels, emphasizes the idea that "all men are divine", and…See More

Growing up is never easy, but when your imaginary friend snorts coke at your tea parties and would rather read porn than Goodnight Moon, it’s a hell of a lot more fun. Wash your doll’s hair, put on your tutu, and grab some plastic beers from your Playskool refrigerator. The Garage is playing doctor, but don’t worry. We’re professionals.See More

The History of the Devil by Clive Barker at The Garage Theatre

October 1, 2010 at 8pm to October 30, 2010 at 8pm
The Devil misses heaven. In an effort to get back into heaven, a court is raised in the middle of the African wastes, to judge the Devil's life on Earth. If proven not guilty, he will ascend back to heaven to be with his father. If not, he will continue to spend eternity on earth. The play traces moments in the Devil's past where his mortal life is analyzed officially before the unseen jury. From his first fall from Heaven into a Russian Farm, to the present where he comes face to face with his…See More
