Long Beach artist Timothy Bulone’s work will hang at the El Dorado Nature Center here beginning Saturday, July 6. Bulone creates each of his images by starting with a digital photograph, then using a variety of computer programs to render them into art that is “more representational, more evocative, and more revelatory” than the original photo, he says. "Digital art sounds much too cold to me. I think of it as photographic art and of myself as an artist working in photography. I am so thankful…See More

It's seems like times are definitely changing. Not sure if it's for the good or bad or whatever. But definitely, the closing of the world famous V.I.P. record store is in my opinion, another defeat in Long Beach's small business scene. For those who don't know (which I hope aren't many of you CIty Lifers), V.I.P. is home to many old school hip hop videos that featured Warren G, Snoop, Nate Dogg, and more. Remember this video? To be…See More

Sixties Boomer creating change by recreating himself, inspiring new dialogue about the role of arts and culture in Long Beach and working to set afire the passions, dreams and visions that all of us have.
You may not be a regular viewer and I doubt that American Idol has anything to worry about but there is a channel on Charter Cable and Verizon that broadcasts television shows produced by anyone with a brain in their head and a beating heart. It’s called Public Access. Today is the deadline to respond to an RFP to run Public Access Television. The Creativity Network will not be submitting a response. Find out why at… Continue

Hey man read what you said and I appreciate your perspective. It was insightful and humble. I know I don't have all the answers either but as a resident we all share the responsibility of looking after the city and shaping how it develops. You guys did something to beautify a part of the landscape, so I'm going to bike over to the mural today to check it out, and pickup a piece of trash.
Again from my stance it's not a criticism on the art itself, it's about the state of the city that we both live in. I am not sitting on my ass criticizing from behind a chair. I work with community organizations to mentor youth and was actually involved with a mural project in the westside of Long Beach off Santa Fe blvd close to Willow (we ended up getting shut down so you guys were actually more successful than us).
My current group does activist trainings, writer's workshops, open mics, documentary film screenings, and open bboy sessions. http://www.oneimagination.blogspot.com/
I'd like to continue this conversation in person instead of over the computer so if you'd be down I'd like to meet up. I think it would be dope if this initial disagreement became a catalyst for further change in LB.
Also, I lion dance and I think I recognize the uniform of the team in your first picture, are they the Immortals from Chinatown in LA?
