Thanks Maurenn - I was able to read the N.LB Anthology book and really enjoyed that!

Regarding books, I would go to the Historical Society to see their collection of books for sale. They have some lovely personal accounts of many LB neighborhoods, including NLB. The Main Library also has a great collection of books. There really isn't a complete "history" of Long Beach, so you'll have to piece it together by perusing the LBPL and the HSLB and other resources.

What an awesome group to nerd out on. I love learning about the history of LB. Do you recommend any good books to get started? I'm going to come back here and start some discussion topics too...

With 17 Historic Districts, it's hard to know where to begin in Long Beach. I would start with the Dowtown Walking Tour offered by Long Beach Heritage on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Check the website to make a reservation. The Historical Society of Long Beach has an excellent exhibit up called "Rebuilding for the Future" which covers the WPA / New Deal projects done in Long Beach during the 1930s. Amazing photos. Don't forget both the Ranchos. Just about any bar or restaurant downtown is in an historic building: Congregation Ale House, The Madison, L'Opera, Sky Room... Good luck!
