We're watering less, walking the kids to and from school instead of driving, reusing our plastic shopping bags, refilling water containers instead of buying new ones every week. We are also teaching our kids as much as we can about the environment and ways to "Keep it Green" :)
I gave up my car from July 23, 2008 to about 2 weeks ago when someone lent me their vehicle until whenever (the headrush whenever I hear the street sweeper is baaack!).
I suggested to the Mayor, City Manager, Bonnie Lowenthal, etc. at a town hall meeting (Courtyard by Marriott, 2008) that Long Beach needs to have MANDATORY RECYCLING (yes I'm shouting!) program. A voluntary "request a recycling bin" program does NOT cut it!
Back east, residents need to SEPARATE plastics, glass, paper.... How can the trash collectors spearate newspaper from coffee grinds and dog doo-doo? The trash needs to be separated BEFORE the trash collectors get it.
Yeah, I've actually always been confused by the city's recycling... do they actually sort the stuff??? Where does what go? Are they really putting it to good use?
My kids wanted to create goals for the year this year, and I was all proud because one of the goals was to plant at least one tree!
i always eat in at restaurants so that i don't have to use styrofoam boxes to bring the food home. anyones thats been down to the beach at Long Beach knows that its about as much styrofoam as sand! and styrofoam contains dangerous gases that are leased when the styrofoam is crushed or heated (like when your favorite restaurant puts your hot, delicious, straight from the oven food in it...). and i'm pretty sure it cant be recycled by the city of Long Beach. the nearest recycling center that accepts styrofoam is in compton. its evil all around >,/body>
Only water front yard once a week and take my empty's to the recycling center at LBSU. Remember, if you want a cheap bike go to the Future Generations Youth Center at Houghton Park. Most bikes are sold for $50 and they all are in good working condition. Check out our FB fan page.
