My son, seen in my pic was dignosed with autism when he was 5 years old. He is now 13 and most people that meet him have no idea. We have been very lucky in that he has had some very good teachers in Long Beach Unified school district that have been very helpful. That being said the actual school district or schools have not always been helpful. I can only advise parents to do as much research as possible and to work with their children to help them.

My son Isaiah has a diagnosis of Autism. He is three years young and was diagnosed when he was 18 months old.His greatest challenge to this day is his language (when he was first diagnosed he was completely non-verbal)
We are extremely proud to say that thanks to the early intervention (or better yet, prevention and extintion of behaviors) he has 50+ words in his vocabulary,
His most recent success story: He was potty trained in three days.Although we new that it would be hard for him he once again showed us that our little boy can and will overcome whatever is to overcome. We can't wait to do it with him.!

I hope that we can fill the comment wall with many great success stories of Long Beach families that are dealing with the daily struggles of having a family member who has a diagnosis of Autism.
The Autism community is huge in Long Beach and we need a great spot where we can just share the struggles that we are faced with and how we are succesfully overcoming them.A spot where we can locally just be here for one another and also inform others about what exactly Autism is.
April is Autism Awareness month and what a great way to celebrate it by starting The Autism Community Group of Long Beach..so lets share those great stories!
