Not only is it healthy to bike your booty around the city, but now you can receive business rewards for doing so!
Developed within Long Beach’s Bike Friendly Business District program, Bike Saturdays began in June 2011 to show support for a bike-friendly city by offering Saturday discounts at participating businesses for bicyclists.
Initially, 75 businesses were involved, in partnership with four Long Beach districts. They included Bixby Knolls, Cambodia Town, East Village Arts District and Retro Row. But now that list has grown to 148 businesses and districts all over the city. Now, Alamitos Beach/Broadway, Belmont Heights, Belmont Shore/Naples, Downtown/Pike/Shoreline Village, East Anaheim, Los Altos, and 7th Street businesses offer specials to patrons who arrive on bike.
Discounts include 20% off all men’s grooming services at American Vintage Barbershop in Belmont Shore, 15% off all labor services at Bikestation Long Beach, and rotating offers at Fingerprints music store. And those are only three of the great deals, with over 145 more at nearly every area of Long Beach.
So now you can get your grub on, do some vintage shopping, enjoy a glass of vine, get your bike repaired on Retro Row, and receive a discount at each place you visit. All you have to do is plan your stops accordingly.
Developed by Green Octopus Consulting, President April Economides is very pleased with the involvement of so many local businesses.
“When we first decided to offer a discount program, we went out and proactively asked merchants to participate,” she said. “And now we have 148 businesses involved because they came to us, wanting to be a part of this program.”
Participating businesses visibly show the window decal posted above, and you don’t have to have a helmet to prove you’re biking. Just let the merchants know in advance, and maybe give a little head nod to your fancy wheels outside.
So before you plan your next Saturday bike route, make sure to visit this participation list to coordinate a day full of fun and discounts, at one of the many amazing areas of Long Beach.
And if you're already ahead of the game, share with us your savings schedule in the comment section.
