I know I already wrote a BLOG about this... but this is VERY IMPORTANT and would only take a minute of your time
I am currently taking donations (NEW & OLD) of : clothes, infant kits, school bags, toys, gardening tools & seeds, blankets & quilts, food, new born kits, fabric & sewing kits, personal care items, hygiene kits.

You see there is this GREAT program called the American Indian Humanitarian Foundation.

My Mom lives on the San Pasqual Indian Reservation in Valley Center (San Diego County).
Her Cousin-in-law works with the non-profit organization to help the needy families of the Pine Ridge & Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

Here are some of their STATS:
(the information below is taken DIRECTLY FROM http://4aihf.org/id54.html)
300% Infant Mortality Rate, highest on this continent.
85% to 95% Unemployment.
Median income is $2,600 to $3,500 per year.
Life Expectancy 48 yrs for a Male & 52 yrs for a Female.
59% homes substandard.
Teen Suicide rate 150% higher than national average.
School dropout rate 70%.
Over 60% homes have black mold fatal to infants, children & elders.
800% Diabetes & Tuberculosis.
Well water contaminated w/ industrial pesticides 60% of homes without water, electricity, adequate insulation, and sewage systems.
97% of the population lives below Federal poverty levels.
No human should have to live under these conditions especially in the USA.

Here is a little information of My Moms in-law "HUMI" http://4aihf.org/id55.html
"Humi has spent many years working with Native Indians in Southern California as a advocate for Civil Rights while working on Humanitarian projects within his Rez, the San Pasqual Indian Reservation. His steadfast commitment and dedication in helping our people in any capacity and his hundreds of hours of volunteer work has earned him great respect in many circles. He has taken the initiative to become a leader in Southern California while organizing numerous donation drives to help his fellow natives who are less fortunate.
His main focus has been to deliver supplies to the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservation, especially in the depth of winter. Those winter challenges have help to develop strong character for Humi and his relatives and friends who have assisted while exposing them to extreme poverty of other native Indians right here in the USA. His continual drive to obtain donations, to find storage and solicit transportation and expenses with help from his Rez, other casino reservations, private and public donors, his relatives and friends, has developed leadership skills worthy of a warrior for fighting for his people and all Indian people. I will be GLAD to pick up any donations from you... please message me so I can give you my telephone number or email address and we can schedule a pick up.
I will be driving the donations to the san pasqual indian reservation, where HUMI and his crew will then drive them to South Dakota.

Thank you for your kind Heart and time!

You could reach alot more people if you connected with Native American Podcasters. Just google those words. THOSE people pass on your word to a target audience. Connect with NPR and the closest towns next to the reservation and Huell Howser, too.

If you teach these people that their MINDS are their most valuable assets, well.. we all know the sky is the limit! Also inform the Psych Associations to assist with the suicide and destructive behaviors. PREOCCUPPY their time with art, music (and technology, if allowed. GET this area ONLINE asap) and/or they may be granted a shortwave radio signal, - google Prometheus Radio re: low power FM stations that you can set up for free in remote, detached places in the US).

Also here is another connection, someone who has been connecting artists with kids for quite some time: DR. CARLOS SILVIERA from csulb. I bet he'd have a brainstorm or two!

NOTE: You are better off having the donations DELIVERED to the reservation because you never know what can happen to a driver/s on the freeway any given moment. Runaway trucks, cop stops, drive bys, car jacks, high speed chases..... I'd LOVE to see the post office involved with this, call 1-800-ask-USPS to inquire. ( In addition, you could attached a letter to the Long Beach Postmaster (and cc: Food Drive Boss 90809) on your food can donation on Saturday May 9th. Seal it in an envelope put a stamp on it to ensure delivery ;) The LOCAL phone number for the Post Office at 90809 on Redondo is (562) 494-2300. At the current moment they have people on payroll who don't have too much work! Do NOT tell them I sent you, one of my ideas has been sitting in the interim/Postmaster's inbox for quite some time!
