A blog post by The Man was featuredOn August 20, ASK Long Beach and Councilmember Steven Neal hosted the First Long Beach BMX and Skate Park Jam and Contest. More than 300 bikers and skateboards rocked the skate course and showed off their skills in the bowl and the street course.
This is the first time an event like this has been done at Houghton Park and it was a cool opportunity for North Long Beach to show off it's skatepark. I think it's the best skate park in Long Beach, it looks really urban and it has some nice obstacles.
The weather was good and the more I saw these kids busting tricks, I wanted to learn how to skateboard myself. Good vibes, a diverse crowd, and a positive motive for making all this happen made this event even better. Also, Mike Donelon, executive director of ASK Long Beach, and former 7th District Councilman and his team used this as a chance to raise fundraisers to repair certain sections of the skate park.
Anyways check out the photos and video from the even and let us know your thoughts!
