What's up CityLifers? So this morning I was checking the headlines to see if there was any interesting news to share with you all. I came across an article of another marijuana bust in Bixby Knolls.
"Long Beach Police last week made two arrests in connection with an illegal marijuana grow operation in a vacant storefront located next door to the main office of an alternative high school in Bixby Knolls.
Long Beach Police Department Narcotics detectives arrested Robert DeWeese, 64, of Seal Beach, and David Benalt, 25, of Manhattan Beach, on Thursday, July 21, in connection with the illegal marijuana grow operation at 4352 Atlantic Ave., LBPD spokesman Sgt. Rico Fernandez said... A search warrant was served at the location last Thursday, at which time detectives seized approximately 200 marijuana plants and took the two suspects into custody, Fernandez said."
What are your thoughts on having weed legal or illegal in Long Beach? Do you live near a medical marijuana dispensary? If so, are they a nuisance in the community? Do you know anyone who has benefited from the plant? How do you think the police are handling this situation city-wide?
You can read the rest of the article here.

First, I think it insane to, on one hand, justify the existance of these dispensaries as 'medical,' not unlike a pharmacy, yet at the same time treat them, and their patients, as though they were a criminal blight. It can't be both.
Ultimately, what we need is for the Federal government to realize that their current grouping of MJ into the same category as heroin is no longer defensible, and should be changed. It should be reclassified as a safe medical product, or declassified entirely.
Until that happens, all this local BS will persist.
Lastly, does anyone know how much it costs to get a permit from the City? Someone said it was over $10k!!!
Permalink Reply by Victoria on August 1, 2011 at 9:44am There are more liquor stores in long beach that create bigger problems the the co ops around town. Let our police and Local government deal with real issues in the city such as homelessness and jobs. I have never seen people who just smoke creating a problem. A lady early replied she was not sure she like the atmosphere it created in her neighborhood. Maybe should try living near 5 bars in a 6 block radius. Always fighting ,drunk and lost in our neighborhood, all congregated outside to smoke using really bad language. I just really see a bias when it comes to the Chronic.Do some home work see why it was every classified a drug and why it still????? How alcohol impact you as a kid??? Most of tried first drink as a teenager so I am sure many smoke or try MJ as well. There are many worse things in our society that impact our children more like TV and violence and sex and many have no problem with that. Funny that people are a arrested and jailed for pot plants.I am sure some agree or dis agree is cool this is the US Check out the link of the article and you decide
