What's up CityLifers? So this morning I was checking the headlines to see if there was any interesting news to share with you all. I came across an article of another marijuana bust in Bixby Knolls.

"Long Beach Police last week made two arrests in connection with an illegal marijuana grow operation in a vacant storefront located next door to the main office of an alternative high school in Bixby Knolls.

Long Beach Police Department Narcotics detectives arrested Robert DeWeese, 64, of Seal Beach, and David Benalt, 25, of Manhattan Beach, on Thursday, July 21, in connection with the illegal marijuana grow operation at 4352 Atlantic Ave., LBPD spokesman Sgt. Rico Fernandez said...
A search warrant was served at the location last Thursday, at which time detectives seized approximately 200 marijuana plants and took the two suspects into custody, Fernandez said."

What are your thoughts on having weed legal or illegal in Long Beach? Do you live near a medical marijuana dispensary? If so, are they a nuisance in the community? Do you know anyone who has benefited from the plant? How do you think the police are handling this situation city-wide?

You can read the rest of the article here.

I live near a dispensary and I have recently seen an outbreak of seemingly jovial, artistic people roaming around my neighborhood. Also, the neighborhood has taken on a party-like feel, almost as if I live in a resort community or vacation destination.  I'm not sure how to handle it.

I see, so it's not like you can tell if it's a bad or good thing right?

I heard that the location in Bixby Knolls was becoming a problem and people smoking on the side of the building. I remember there used to be 2 stores right next to each other.

they had too many plants and in a storefront next to a school! DUUH . The city of lb has made cash from all the dispensary folks revitalizing neighborhoods and purchasing permits LEGALLY. I wonder if those 2 cats even had their medical cards

Yea, I thought those dispensaries had to be within certain limits of a school. One thing I would like to know if that if someone gets pulled over by a cop and they show them their medical card, will they be off the hook, if they had some weed on them.

I don't know of anyone who really had to use their card because a police officer pulled him/her over... But what I DO hear is, "Don't trip I got my medical card on me." I just give them this expression (-_-)

I think you can drive with a small amount in ur pocket but dont drive under the influence of that said pocket
Does anyone on the site have a medical marijuana card that can speak on this issue?
i can not confirm or deny that, lol!
My issue is with the fact that they are from Seal Beach and Redondo Beach! WTH? Really. I don't care if its legal or illegal set up shop in your own hood. If it was an LB resident than we as the community can rally around you and say yes we want this here or no we don't. Let it be our choice, our hood, our stores, our owners. If it was LB and Medically needed... i got your back and can deal with the riff raff hanger arounders... but don't bring your dirt to our well knit soil. setting up these bogus shops hurts shops that need to be here, which is why they brought it here instead of their own backyard.. which they probably transport to their hood incognito after abusing ours... jus' sayin'
sick of being used by outside communities

AGREE!!

I'm like Sheri - Not 100% to sure which way I lean. I'm open to legalization and particularly for medical purposes, but the presence of the dispensaries in neighborhoods is odd. Sort of like the whole liquor store on every corner problem. What sort of marketing campaigns will go into generating business for these places? Will it be like beer and cigarette marketing? Mostly I wonder how my kids will be impacted by it...
Yeah it was a little weird to see 3 shops on one block in my neighborhood. 2 shops almost next door to each other.
