Are you looking for those unique handmade gifts this year? You know something other then the crappy perfume and cologne sets at Macy's, or another over priced bracelet from the mall stores? Only problem is where to find that stuff, right? Especially if you'd really rather buy from someone locally.
Good news! This Friday and Saturday, 12/2 - 12/3, is the Long Beach Uptown Village Market at the Expo Arts Center. The Uptown Village Market is the newest place for artists and creators of well-crafted goods to show and sell their work.
The event is intended to feature a select, eclectic array of young and emerging designers producing original and handmade goods in a wide variety of media.
The Uptown Village Market will feature artists with a DIY (do-it-yourself) background – creating innovative work using traditional craft methods.
Among the many products expected to be showcased include original products, handmade items, and a variety of eclectic and sophisticated creations ranging from jewelry, stationary, fashion, art, ceramic and glass wares, edibles, and accessories for the home, garden, pets, kids, men and women.
The expected outcome is to create an annual event designed to discoverer new talent. One that allows independent artisans to build an independent craft business, all while attracting hundreds of attendees under a warm, comfortable and inviting setting and in one location.
Opening night of the Uptown Village Market will be held in conjunction with the popular First Fridays art walk event, a night of art, music and food, which regularly draws a crowd of over 1000 participants to the lively Bixby Knolls area of Long Beach. Expect an environment that will be both artful and surprising.

More than 3,000 varied, creative, innovative works are available for sale from students and faculty in the California State University, Long Beach Department of Art. From photography to jewelry, fiber and textile pieces to ceramics, illustrations to sculptures - you'll find an unbelievable amount of art on display and for sale - and the prices range from single digit dollar amounts to much higher. Whether you're a collector or just wanting to do some holiday shopping for friends, family and co-workers - this sale is worth a trip to the CSULB campus. Sale is on December 4-8. Opening day is Sunday, from 4-7pm. regular sale hours are 10am-5pm. The sale is located in the CSULB student art galleries, on the southeast section of the campus, between buildings FA2 and FA3. More information is available by e-mailing amarsh@csulb.edu.

Permalink Reply by The Man on November 30, 2011 at 2:05pm This seems like a cool event. When I think of hand crafted items in the Bixby Knolls area, I think of Bella Cosa, it's cool to know that there's going to be a lot of that going on this week at First Fridays.
Don't forget to check out "Sugar Rush" at It's a Grind during First Fridays for music, and art.

I'd like to be included in this. I make Hand poured candles. The colors and scents are off the hook. IS it too late to sign up for this event?
