For more than 86 years Long Beach Arts connects area artists with the community.
Through the years LBA sponsored art fairs, classes, and now mounts art
exhibitions in its gallery space at 5372 Long Beach Blvd.
LBA has always relied on community volunteers to handle the many tasks needed to
put on its annual slate of fine art shows.
TODAY THAT NEED IS GREATER THAN EVER! Besides our vacant leadership positions
we also need people with the technology skills that are becoming key to
effective and efficient promotions as well as the day-to-day tasks of keeping
the gallery staffed, cleaned and open in Long Beach.
Leadership positions (President, Vice-President, etc) are limited to members
(You don't have to be an artist to support LBA, just committed.).
There are many other opportunities for community volunteers to support LBA. The
list covers many vital assignments to keep us operating.
Gallery Attendants – Staffs the gallery at select times, almost always
Wednesdays through Sundays, Noon to 4 p.m. Some Attendants bring art to work on
while they sit, others read or write. This is not a demanding position; greet
visitors as they come in, explain the Show's theme and keep an eye on things.
This could be one day a week or one-to-three days a month.
In/Out Weekend Coordinators – Takes in art for the next Show and signs out
artists for the Show that just finished. Happens about every six weeks, with
the schedule known well in advance.
Installation Help – Also happens about every six weeks, usually Monday and
Tuesday evenings immediately after the In/Out Weekend. The hanging philosophy
is simple, basic math makes it easier and it goes up fairly easily.
Fundraising – Investigate available funds and grants, presents opportunities to
the Board and works on the submissions. (Should understand online as most of
the funding groups have online applications.)
Image Manager – Scans and produces small, low-res images of LBA's accepted
entries for use in our Facebook Show pages.
Online Promotions – Loads our Show images and prospects for different avenues we
can use to promote our juried Shows.
Print/Mail Coordinator – Works with our mailing house to produce six of our
prospectuses and delivers them to the Long Beach Post Office.
LBA has earned the respect of fine artists, art professionals, instructors and
professors for its work throughout the years.
LBA will have a MEETING immediately following our OPENING RECEPTION for the 2010
Open National Exhibition, Sunday November 14 starting at 4 p.m. (Reception
starts at 2.)
Please attend if you want to mold the future history of this classic art group!
