In this hour-long documentary film a young multi-racial Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) woman, filmmaker Christen Hepuakoa Marquez, sets out to discover the meaning of her incredibly lengthy Hawaiian name from her estranged mother whose diagnosis as schizophrenic in the 80′s caused their family separation. Christen discovers not only herself within the name, but gains a whole new perspective on the idea of sanity and how cultural differences can sometimes muddle its definition.See More

The reigning LBRD champs exemplified their extraordinary derby skills at the Roller Derby Dome last night, where the Bixby Rollerettes took down the Terminal Island Tootsies, 157-79.
There were so many excited fans in attendance and apparently Mayor Bob Foster was there, seated on the TITS side. LOL.
Long Beach locals, Van and Connie Gatlin also attended and they sure were impressed with the turnout and sport.
"It's a great thing for Long Beach. I used to watch the LA Thunderbirds on TV, but this is a lot more fun," Van said.
And although the team rivalry of sisters Coach Diesel and Coach Biodiesel was intense, they both played fun by jamming against each other the last round of the match, with older sister Diesel pulling Biodiesel's shirt over her head, while younger sister gave Diesel a nice, big weggie.
Hope you enjoy the video, and please let us know about your experience at the bout last night, as I know some of our 562CityLifers were there!

Awesome video! We had won free tix and it was our first derby event. Def. doing it again!
Nice! How'd you win tickets?
Yo nice coverage of the roller derby. You got video skills too?!? That's wassup. Keep em comin'
I need to get over to one of these bouts.  I used to go to L.A. Derby Dolls all the time...even skated on fresh meat.  Can't believe I have never been to a LBRD bout.  So cool they got a banked track and a crowd within no time at all.  Roller Derby rocks!

From my understanding and word of mouth, the LBRD bouts are waaaay more exciting :) You definitely need to go to the next and final one, 11/11/11!!

That sounds awesome.  I'll put it on the calendar.
