What better way to experience WOODSTOCK, Michael Wadleigh's Oscar-winning documentary chronicling the legendary 1969 concert, than on the beach and under the stars?
On August 15, 1969, 500,000 people flocked to a 600-acre dairy farm and created a virtual city, camping out for three days as thirty-two acts took to the stage in a groundbreaking and legendary concert that, per Rolling Stone magazine, "changed the history of rock and roll." Fortunately, cameras were rolling, and director Michael Wadleigh - with the help of expert editors including Oscar-winners Martin Scorsese and Thelma Schoonmaker - compiled a phenomenal three-hour documentary that gives us everything from preparation through cleanup, including historic and rare access to insiders, portraits of the concertgoers, and hours of legendary concert footage.
Featuring performances by dozens of artists including Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Arlo Guthrie, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Joan Baez, Canned Heat, Grateful Dead, Santana, Country Joe and the Fish, and Crosby Stills & Nash, this winner of the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature was also nominated for Best Editing and Best Sound, and is an explosive portrait of an event that was billed as "three days of peace, music, and love," and became a cultural milestone.
