Ten local residents participating in the City of  Long Beach Neighborhood Leadership Program (NLP) are hosting the UB Safe, Safety and Resource Fair on Saturday, July 23, 2011 from 10:00am - 2:00pm at Admiral Kidd Park, 2125 Santa Fe Avenue.  This year’s NLP brings focus to Long Beach’s Westside community, specifically the Santa Fe Corridor. 

Community organizations will share safety information and other resources, including but not limited to the American Red Cross, Long Beach Health Department, and Long Beach Youth 411.  There will also be a mobile dental clinic offering free dental screenings.  If you or your group is interested in volunteering during the event please contact Sharon at (562)569-1547.

 We are happy to announce a free exposition by the Long Beach Roller Derby and their Junior League.  The girls will be out in uniform and on their skates bringing a fantastic show to the Westside.  They will demonstrate good sportsmanship and safety tips.  Attendees of all ages who participate in the free program will receive complimentary lunch from Outback Steakhouse and enter a free opportunity drawing.  There will also be music, dancing, and face painting for children of all ages to enjoy.

Residents, local businesses, and volunteers from throughout the city are encouraged to attend. The U.B. Safe Safety & Resource Fair will address and provide information specifically for the safety concerns of the Santa Fe Avenue Corridor. Additionally, the event will provide the local community with access to health and other general resources.

The Neighborhood Leadership Program is a nationally recognized multi-lingual, multi-cultural program.  The Class of 2011 is funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant (CBDG) as well as through partnerships with the Long Beach Community Foundation and Union Bank.  The program has been offered free of charge to participants by the City of Long Beach, Neighborhood Services Bureau for the past seventeen years.  A list of residents interested in participating in the Class of 2012 is now forming.  For more information about the Neighborhood Leadership Program, please call (562) 570-3817 or e-mail Francisco.Rodriguez@longbeach.gov.
