The Long Beach Zen Meditation Group organizes a Zazenkai, which is a full day of Zen meditation. During a Zazenkai, we remain silent and we meditate for several half-hour periods. Everybody is welcome to attend the whole or part of the program or meditate with us for one or more periods. A healthy wholesome vegetarian lunch will be served around noon. We request a registration with a refundable deposit of $50 for the lunch. Mediation instructions will be given to newcomers. This event is free, donations are highly appreciated
Rural and remote Zen Centers organize regular seven days intense meditation retreats, called sesshins. Zazenkai’s are typical for urban Zen centers and smaller Zen groups and are an excellent one-day alternative for those we aren’t able to take off from work and other duties for a week.
The zazenkai will take place at the Zen group’s regular meeting place at the Neighborhood United Methodist Church, 507 Pacific Avenue, Long Beach, Ca 90802.
The Yokoji-Long Beach Zen group is a rapidly growing meditation group, affiliated with the Yokoji-Mountain Zen Center in the San Jacinto Mountains near Idyllwild, Ca. The group welcomes everybody to their Zazen session on Thursday evening, 7:00pm and Saturday morning 9:00pm. The group intends to expand the zazen sessions and evolve in a full metropolitan Zen Center.
