MONDO MONDAYS ON THE BEACH kick off Monday, July 11, with a screening of 1955's REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE!
The team behind Alfredo's Beach Club (http://alfredosbeachclub.com/) have invited us to program cult/"drive-in" classics throughout the summer to complement their fantastic lineup of family-friendly fare - we'll be taking the beach every Monday night through August 29, and are working on a great program that may include a musical, a classic concert film, a suspense classic, and more!
Join us on July 11 for REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE, Nicholas Ray's 1955 drama featuring iconic performances by James Dean, Natalie Wood, and Sal Mineo (and keep your eye out for a young Dennis Hopper). Nominated for three Oscars, the film's portrayal of disconnected teens, absentee parents, and subtly-presented homosexuality was groundbreaking at the time, and the film went on not only to be celebrated as a cinematic work of art, but achieved a cult status among teenagers who connected to its themes of existential angst and insecurity. Shot in Los Angeles and offering a famous opportunity to see the Griffith Observatory as it was before its recent renovation, REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE is a historic film landmark that was recently selected by the National Film Registry for preservation, and voted the #59 film of all time by the American Film Institute.

This event is free, and will begin at sundown (approximately 8:15pm). Bring chairs and blankets to get comfortable!
