Event Description

NOISE NIGHT CABARET AT THE PUKA BAR, LONG BEACH SEPTEMBER 27

Noise Night Cabaret returns once again on Monday, September 27 at the tiki-themed Puka Bar, 710 W. Willow St. Long Beach, 90806, (562) 997 6896 at 8 p.m. This monthly series provides a space for circuit benders, found-instrument players, cacophanators, microtonists, genre destroyers, tape loopers, spoken word manglers, puppet tormentors and goop throwers to direct their energies in a socially acceptable way. Admission is free.

Leading the pack of noisicians is AMPS FOR CHRIST, an electro-acoustic industrial ensemble with present and former members of The Dull and Bastard Noise. This Inland Empire institution combines church music, folklore, broken glass, homemade instruments and oscillators into a unique sonic brew.

Also on the schedule is a rare appearance by the one and only ALBERT ORTEGA, a long-time denizen of the L.A. noise circuit known for forays into adventurous genres such as discometal and housebluegrass.

Those jokesters known as CLOWNS AND FETUSES will emerge from the industrial trappings of their Huntington Park warehouse to put on a multimedia presentation on Southern California’s STORM DRAINS and the people and animals that live in them. Guitars, keyboards and other “normal” instruments will yield unusual sounds to portray bizarre but well-documented underground sightings.

Finally, Ventura’s own UVUAL, consisting of “one Human, all the demons and all the angels” will purvey sonic landscapes that have been compared to those of the moons of Saturn. This collective will once again prove that the invention of capacitors, resistors and semiconductors was not in vain. Special reinforcements for the bar’s tiki gods may be needed as they sway to Uvual’s low frequency swells.

Noise night continues at the Puka Bar on Monday, October 25, with a noise dance club called "BIT MAP," a dancetorium specially designed for those with a limited attention span, replete with beats and circuit benders, and curated by the one and only PHOGG MASHEEEN.
