In this hour-long documentary film a young multi-racial Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) woman, filmmaker Christen Hepuakoa Marquez, sets out to discover the meaning of her incredibly lengthy Hawaiian name from her estranged mother whose diagnosis as schizophrenic in the 80′s caused their family separation. Event Description

The Belmont Shore Business Association is hosting the 23rd Annual Belmont Shore Car Show Sunday, September 9, 2012. The event is a long-standing community favorite that draws upwards of 50,000 from all over California to Belmont Shore.  The fourteen-block stretch of East Second Street will be closed from Bayshore Avenue to Livingston Avenue for the event.  Up to 700 classic cars will be on display making it one of the largest car shows of its kind on the West Coast.  The side streets that intersect with Second Street will also be closed to the alleys for the purpose of exhibiting cars.
What makes this car show unique is its location.  Taking place on the usually busy Second Street (driven by an estimated 40,000 vehicles per day), attendees have the opportunity to intermix shopping and dining with viewing the gorgeous automobiles.  After all Belmont Shore is home to over fifty unique and upscale shops and nearly fifty restaurants, cafes and sweet shops!  You also can’t beat the weather of this beachside town with the warm sun and ocean breezes.
But of course it’s the cars that bring the large crowd.  You can expect to find some of the first automobiles ever made as well as classic roadsters, coupes, sedans, convertibles, muscle cars, sports cars, hot rods and low riders from the 1920’s through the mid 1970’s.  Many cars are one-of-a-kind, limited editions or customized.  It’s estimated that the total value of the cars on display will be in the ballpark of $25 million!
Sponsors present at the show include Performance Plus Tire, Verizon Wireless (locally owned & operated), Charter Communications, Pep Boys Speed Shop, Port of Long Beach, Long Beach Airport, Rite Aid, Machan Sign Co., Electric Car Sales, and unique Vendors will line the streets. Returning to coordinate the Car Show is the Bay City Rodders car club of Seal Beach.  The cost to enter is $30 for pre-registration, $35 at the show, and $80 to be a “power parker”.  Power parkers allow entrants to park in their chosen location without waiting in line prior to regular entries. Visit www.baycityrodders.com for an application and more information on entering.
To enter your car and for more information, visit www.BayCityRodders.com.

East Second Street and intersecting side streets from Quincy Avenue to Claremont Avenue will be closed to traffic from 5:00am to 5:00pm. We recommend parking in the beach lot off Ocean Boulevard
