Local Artist’s Work at El Dorado Nature Center at El Dorado Nature Center Museum

July 6, 2013 to July 31, 2013
Long Beach artist Timothy Bulone’s work will hang at the El Dorado Nature Center here beginning Saturday, July 6. Bulone creates each of his images by starting with a digital photograph, then using a variety of computer programs to render them into art that is “more representational, more evocative, and more revelatory” than the original photo, he says. "Digital art sounds much too cold to me. I think of it as photographic art and of myself as an artist working in photography. I am so thankful…See More

Legendary V.I.P. World Famous Records Closes Shop

It's seems like times are definitely changing. Not sure if it's for the good or bad or whatever. But definitely, the closing of the world famous V.I.P. record store is in my opinion, another defeat in Long Beach's small business scene. For those who don't know (which I hope aren't many of you CIty Lifers), V.I.P. is home to many old school hip hop videos that featured Warren G, Snoop, Nate Dogg, and more. Remember this video?     To be…See More

Event Description

Long Beach, CA –– The 29th Annual Belmont Shore Christmas Parade comes to town Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 6:00PM. (NEW START TIME). A celebrated holiday tradition, the parade features approximately 75 entries including marching bands, local personalities and dignitaries, floats representing Long Beach businesses and associations.  Bringing the parade to a close is the favorite Santa Claus.

This year’s parade theme is ‘IT’S A GREEN CHRISTMAS”, RECYCLE, REUSE, RENEW! Entries are encouraged to embrace the theme through the decoration of their floats and costumes.

With an estimated 50,000 people lining the fifteen block stretch of Second Street, it should come as no surprise the amount of effort and preparation that goes into closing the street to the approximated 40,000 vehicles that travel it daily.

The following are the affected streets and the times of their closures:

  • Livingston Avenue will be closed from Ocean Blvd. to East Second Street at 3:00PM for the purpose of staging entrants.
  • Side streets from Quincy Avenue to Claremont Avenue will be closed from Second Street to north and southbound to the alleys starting at 4:00PM.
  • East Second Street will close from Livingston Avenue to Bayshore Avenue beginning at 4:30PM.

No property of any kind permitted on Sidewalk or center median until 5:00pm (chairs, blankets, tables, coolers, tape, chains etc ).  All items will be removed and taken to Bayshore Library for pick-up. Most importantly, they state that areas may not be “roped off”.  Such obstacles and possessions may be removed and taken to the Bay Shore Library for pick up after the event. The City of Long Beach has made this request for the purpose of protecting public safety and allowing pedestrian access along the sidewalk.

No Alcohol on the streets and no underage drinking will be permitted.  This will be enforced by the LBPD

The Parade is made possible by the generous support of its sponsors.  The BSBA would like to acknowledge and thank Associate Sponsors:  Belmont Shore Natural Care, Port of Long Beach, Charter Communications, Farmers & Merchants Bank, Long Beach Press-Telegram, and Run Racing.

Marching bands and non-profit organizations wishing to be in the parade are looking for sponsors.  The cost to sponsor a marching band is $500 and sponsorship of a non-profit organization is $400.  Sponsors are recognized in the parade with banners carried in front of their sponsored entry.

For more information and sponsorship opportunities for the 29th Anniversary Christmas Parade, visit www.BelmontShore.org or call (562) 434-3066.
